Words w/ Comet

Herro Jammers! 'Words w/ Comet' are articles I've designed to address certain problems within AJ. We all know the basics: Scamming, trading, drama, etc., but I want to put further analysis into why these problems appear, and how we can at least try to stop it. I know that these problems will never go away; they can't, they're everywhere around the world, but at least I can try to help. I may be just one person, but I want you guys to help, too!

Also, another reason why I made these articles is so that I can type up my personal experiences (or stories) about these issues. I know I've only been on AJ for a year, but there's still tons of memories jam-packed within that short period of time, and there's still more stories coming in.

Feel free to share your stories about these topics as well! I want to spread awareness of these problems all over AJ, because we've all experienced at least some of it. Whether you're knee-deep in drama or just got splashed in the face with it, it's still here, and it should stop.

Because of the drama and all that's been going around, I even hold Words of Comfort (WOC) sessions at my den. (This is also shown in my description for my profile, as well). I hate bullying, it's unfair and unkind. Kindness is one of the most important traits to possess, because it helps develop relationships with friends. It's rarely shown in Animal Jam or even outside of the world, and it breaks my heart when I think of it. Bullying may never stop, but unkind words (over a computer, for Mira's sake) is never welcome at my blog, nor should it ever be welcome anywhere else.

Here are just some tips to avoid drama/other sticky situations:
  • If someone is taunting you, don't give in to the satisfaction of taunting them back! That's what they want, and it could just get worse. My best suggestion is just to block, report, and walk away. I know how tempting it is to shout back in all caps, screaming: "YOU'RE SO MEAN!" but remember: Whenever you find yourself in a bad situation, it is always good to be the better person. This means either blocking the bully, or responding in a way that may irk them, and then giving yourself the satisfaction of being the mature one. (Kind responses that compliment the bully are perfect come-backs, because bullies are actually hurting inside.)
  • Be understanding to the bully. I know it may not make any sense to you, but bullies hurt, too. You never know what's behind the computer screen, and oftentimes they just hurt others to make themselves feel better. I know you've heard this a million times, but it's probably true. Bullies just react from their emotions, without a thought of the consequences afterwards. It's like you when you get in a fight with a friend of yours. You reacted without thinking, and you regret it afterwards.
  • Acknowledge the fact that bullies are probably drowning in guilt. Have you ever felt particularly guilty about something? That's probably how bullies feel, too. They're human, and they have feelings. Maybe they didn't even mean to hurt you; maybe they were just having a bad day. When it comes to computers and online gaming, we never know the other side of the story.
  • If it still is terrible, don't be afraid to tell a trusted adult! Sometimes, the best way to solve a problem is just telling an adult. If you're getting cyber-bullied it isn't good to hide! Let people know, and they will definitely be willing to help you. :)
These are just some tips I have to avoid bullying and drama. I will be posting 'Words w/ Comet' under the label 'Words w/ Comet.' Please feel free to comment your stories as well, and I'll add them to this page. (Kindness is key!) ;)

  10. I had an experience with a strange jammer before. When I was with my friend at Crystal Reef, this unknown jammer came up to me and said that I scammed her purple earrings. I felt really, really, really weird when she said so and told her that I didn't have them. She answered that I must have recycled them, and when I asked her when I scammed her, she answered that I scammed her the day before after my friend logged off. But I actually logged off after my friend logged off the other day! Hearing that, she ended with an "Oh" and left. That was one weird, and a little bit scary experience...
